Gulf Coast Poets Newsletter -- Upcoming Readings, Festivals and Calls for Submission and other Resources


Members and Friends of the Gulf Coast Poets (“GCP”):


As a gift to the community that supports us and all the other poetry organizations in the Houston area the GCP is going to revive its periodic newsletter about happenings in the area and beyond and resource pages for submitting poetry. We hope you enjoy this and we will update it periodically. If any of you have a reading or know of a poetry festival or event you’d like us to share please let us know at GCPexcom@gulfcoastpoets.info.   Please share and if any of you have a friend who wants to receive this when issued just let us know.

March 14, 2020 - Gulf Coast Poets March Meeting with Featured Poet Carrie Kornacki — 10:30 a.m. at the Barnes & Noble on Bay Area Blvd. and I-45.


April 11, 2020 — Gulf Coast Poets April Meeting with Catherine Olson, Professor of English, Lone Star College —10:30 a.m. at the Barnes & Noble on Bay Area Blvd. and I-45.


Oct. 3, 2020 — GCP Presents Poetry Out of Bounds the kickoff event for the Houston Poetry Fest. 10:30 – 1:00pm at Dunn Brothers Coffee, 201 S Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546


Dec. 12, 2020 — GCP Annual Holiday Program featuring 2011 Texas Poet Laureate David M. Parsons. 12:00 to 2:30 p.m. at Friendswood Public Library, 416 S Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546. Free and open to the public. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served.

February 12 — UH Creative Writing Program presents Nationally Acclaimed Poet Carl Philips — 7 p.m. at the Cy Twombly Gallery on the Menil campus, 1501 Branard Street. Seating is free but limited.


February 18, 2020 — Poetry Fix at Fix Coffee Bar. 6:30 -8:00 p.m. at 415 Westheimer Rd, Houston, Texas 77006.  Mike Alexander hosts featured poets every other Tuesday of the Month at this location.


February 21, 2020 — Gulf Coast (Magazine) Reading Series presents featured poet Kazim Ali and student readers are Laura Biagi, Chris Flakus, and Daniel Tompkins — 6:30 p.m. at  

Lawndale Art Center, 4912 Main Street, Houston, 77002. Featured authors are joined by student readers from the University of Houston Creative Writing Program. This series continues typically on the third Friday of each month in the fall and spring. (Not affiliated with Gulf Coast Poets).
